The series dips into the personal archives of local recordings that haven’t made it to the light of day. A common response to BOMBOGENESIS from audiences was, “When did this happen!?” One neighborhood floods while another neighborhood is unaware.
Oil and water don’t mix. A gasoline spill in a parking lot along the South River in Salem, MA creates a beautifully toxic scene. Our waterways continually collect our pollutants. Accidents happen and this is why investing in low impact design stormwater infrastructures in our cities make sense. HEARTLAND is a multimedia dance performance integrating original Butoh choreography by Ledoh with an original score and set imagery developed in partnership with San Francisco’s Salt Farm. HEARTLAND explores the theme of our bodies’ and hearts’ sense of “coming home.” As the culmination of a work cycle that began with COLORMEAMERICA (2008) and continued with SUICIDE BARRIER (2011), HEARTLAND brings this exploration to ground level in its examination of human interaction with the natural environment.
A Butoh-baed multimedia performance project that explores the paradox of how so many of our recent initiatives aimed at supposedly enhancing security actually backfire and serve instead to undermine our biologically-imprinted sense for collective safety and well-being. The piece captivates the viewer while unfolding the complexities of our relationship to nature and one another against a backdrop of urban decay.
